'I decided to crash a Viktor & Rolf show in Paris. I never expected to get in...'
We were delighted to welcome fashion illustrator Pippa McManus to Claremont Quarter as part of our Spring Summer Series. Pippa will be delivering a series of fashion illustration workshops over August and September, sharing tips and techniques on how to transfer the catwalk to canvas.
We spoke to Pippa about her love of the fashion industry and her career....
"I combined my love and study of art and fashion about 9 years ago to become a professional fashion illustrator. I'm inspired by every single bit of the fashion world, the models, the designers, the concepts and all the unseen little ins and outs of industry and I especially love being able to combine all of these things in a single image.
I've been lucky enough see and be involved in some amazing fashion weeks across the world. The first was a couple of years ago when I decided to crash a Viktor & Rolf show in Paris. I never expected to get in but just wanted to see if I could spot one of my favourite models out the back of the tent. Not only did I see a bunch of my favourite models I saw some of my fashion heros! Like italian stylist Anna Dello Russo, street style photographer the Sartorialist ,blogger Bryan Boy and designer Gareth Pugh. It was defiantly a WOW moment, and I have seen a few of them since that day and I still get a complete thrill.
I appreciate that it has all paid off, I have worked so hard at making the thing I love a career and it's worked! And more than that I appreciate the support I receive from family, friends industry and complete strangers, it's the file that keeps me painting. "
