Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Edit

Stylist Elizabeth Clarke hit CQ's leading fashion retailers to source the hottest looks being seen front row and street side at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia right now

From Tome’s monochromatic, architectural silhouettes and Strateas Carlucci’s elongated knitwear, to Alice McCall’s joyful prints and colour palettes, Spring/Summer 2015/16 is set to be a season of diverse and wearable fashion trends.

Stick with this season’s sweet sixties shapes, or get ahead of the pack with Toni Matichevski-inspired fifties style cocktail dresses.

Take fashion notes from Kate Sylvester’s collection, and seek out simply styled black leather pieces (yes, leather can be worn all year round) and team with dark moody floral separates.

With smart runway inspiration and Claremont Quarter’s new Autumn/Winter fashion drops, it’s easy to keep your look chic and cosy during the colder months, and still look red-hot right through to Spring.

Look 1 | Adam Heath

“This is my take on fashion week’s fabulous model-off-duty-look! For effortless layering, use a tee-shirt as your base, then add slouchy pants, a bomber jacket, giant shades and super-comfy shoes. Metallics are big news again this season; a slick of silver to an otherwise monochromatic look gives great instant chic. Try layering different textures as I have here using sumptuous leather, flat satin brocade and high-shine metallic. It’s an effective way to add interest and give depth to an otherwise dark outfit.”

Shop the Look:

  • McQ by Alexander McQueen silver tee $259
  • Dries Van Noten metallic vest $1050
  • Navy Bomber Jacket $1215
  • Phillip Lim 3.1 leather pants $1699

  • Prada sunglasses $660 from Sunglass Hut

Look 2 | Adam Heath

“Nothing says 1960s like a bubblegum pink mini dress! Victoria Beckham is Queen of the Frock, and this softly structured dress is a fantastic piece for channeling your inner Twiggy. The perspex flower brooch gives the look real sixties authenticity. I added these incredible Rupert Sanderson glitter shoes to give the overall look a modern edge. The shoe shape is very sexy and they cleverly change colour in the light, so they won’t look too matchy-matchy.”

Shop the Look:

  • Victoria by Victoria Beckham dress $1199
  • Jamin Puech bag $799
  • Rupert Sanderson heels $799 all from Adam Heath

Look 3 | Morrison

“Chunky knitwear – especially in beautiful shades of grey – has been a key street style look in Sydney this week. It is not only one of fashion’s top trends for winter, but also a versatile way to dress here in Perth. Simply layer up, then discard pieces as you need to. I love these super-wide linen pants, a shape that Gary Bigeni also showed this week. If you are not as leggy as a runway model, be sure to wear a heel or you will drown in all that fabric! Try adding a dash of tan to your greys, in the form of a bag or shoe, for a rich winter vibe. It’s a fabulous colour combination.”

Shop the Look:

  • Matteo Vest $169
  • Niko Linen Pants $289
  • Grey Knit Jacket $299
  • Ombre Scarf $129
  • Luka Boots $299

“A leather skirt is a mandatory winter staple. To offset its sleek, sexy lines, I added a soft silk tee in pretty sky blue. The long overcoat gives great proportion, whilst the chunky scarf adds delicious texture.”

Look 5 | Gorman

“I love this gold pleated skirt that can be styled in so many different ways. It looks quirky teamed with prints and patterns, sophisticated with a tuxedo jacket and heels, or casual with a white shirt and sneakers. Michael Lo Sordo’s collection at MBFW was brimming with pleats, so this is not only a great buy for winter, but will take you forward into Spring.”

Shop the Look:

  • Moth Bomber Jacket $249
  • Stripe Tee $149
  • Gold Pleated Skirt $199
  • Shoes $289
  • Socks $16

Look 6 | Manning Cartell

“This white leather shell top is a fantastic all year-round staple and a nice way to quieten down a busy printed skirt. The grey overcoat is really wearable and a wonderful travelling companion for winter. It imparts instant polish when worn over denim and converse, and gives great evening chic over a cocktail dress. Don’t forget to pop your collar for uber-styling!”

Shop the Look:

  • White Leather Shell Top $349
  • Geometric Print Pencil Skirt $449
  • Grey Coat $899
  • Navy booties $599 all from Manning Cartell

The black knit shell with mesh inserts is super-sexy, whilst the glossy black cat’s eye sunglasses provide an instant winter fashion update.”
